The Rams didn't take long to show the SGP Warriors that last year's 38-0 win was no fluke. RB/LB Grant Nakwaasah ran the opening kickoff back 90 yds for a TD and Lawrence Williams ran in a 2pt. conversion to put the Rams up 8-0 only 24 seconds into the contest. The Rams followed with a 66 yd TD run by L. Williams and a 1 yd. TD plunge by Aric Stock to go up 22-0 in the first quarter. Kicker Zack Olen booted a 24 yd. FG and Stock added 14 yd. run with 3 seconds left in the 2nd quarter to put the Rams in control 32-0 at the half. The Rams defensive starters were stellar in the first half as SGP managed only 30 yds of first half offense. DT Justin Yancey, DE's Preston Wimberly and Kentarius Caldwell, LB's Grant Nakwaasah and Walbur Oliviera, and DB Devonte Corbitt played outstanding on the defensive side.
Nakwaasah and slot/DB Terry Gilbert added TD runs and Zack Olen booted a 23 yd. FG in the second half to round out the scoring for the Rams. SGP managed 19 fourth quarter points to make the final score 49-19. The Rams offense put up 288 yards rushing on 34 carries and scored on 7 of its first 9 possessions. The offensive line deserves credit for the offensive outburst as the group performed well as a whole. In addition, the Ram offense had zero turnovers and looked poised with the 2 QB attack of Williams and Stock.
The Rams, 1-0 overall, now set their sights on a 90 minute road trip to face the North Crowley Panthers (0-1) on Fri. Sept. 4. The Panthers dropped their opener 46-23 to Mansfield Summit. The team speed of North Crowley is something that definetely has the attention of the Ram coaching staff. QB Torelle Norwood runs the wide open spread attack for the Panthers by mixing a quick passing game with a fast, quick paced running game. Game time is set for 7:30pm on the campus of North
Crowley HS. The Rams look to earn a tough road win before returning home to face metroplex powerhouse, Desoto, on Sept. 11.
